ESTA Requirements

Let's look at what you need to be eligible for an ESTA and what to have ready before you begin. We have explained everything in plain, simple language.

Who Needs an ESTA?

An ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) is required if you are traveling to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. In plain terms, you will need an ESTA if all of the following apply to you:

You are a citizen of a country that participates in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program
You are planning to visit the United States for tourism, business, or transit (passing through)
Your stay will be 90 days or fewer
You do not already hold a valid U.S. visa
You are traveling by air or sea (not overland from Canada or Mexico)

Not Sure If Your Country Qualifies?

The Visa Waiver Program includes many countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, South Korea, and many others across Europe and Asia-Pacific. If you are unsure whether your country is included, please contact us and we will be happy to check for you.

What You Will Need to Have Ready

Before starting the questionnaire, it helps to gather a few items. Don't worry — we explain exactly where to find each piece of information as you go through the steps.

Your Valid Passport

You will need your passport number, the country that issued it, the issue date, and the expiration date. These can be found on the photo page of your passport — the page with your picture.

✓ Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your planned stay in the United States. If it expires soon, you may want to renew it first.

Make sure you enter your name exactly as it appears on your passport — even if you usually go by a different name.

Your Contact Details

We will need an email address where we can reach you with updates about your application, and a phone number in case we need to contact you about a correction.

✓ We recommend using an email address you check regularly, so you don't miss any important updates from us.

Your Travel Plans (If Known)

If you know when you plan to travel and where you will be staying in the United States, please have those details ready. This includes your expected arrival date, the address of your hotel or the person you are visiting.

✓ If you have not decided on your exact dates or accommodation yet, that is perfectly fine. You can still start the questionnaire and update this information later.

Your Employment Information

The questionnaire asks for the name and address of your current employer. If you are retired, self-employed, or not currently working, that is absolutely fine — you will be able to indicate this clearly.

✓ This is standard information that the travel authorities request. It is nothing to worry about.

A Few More Things to Know

How Long Is an ESTA Valid?

Once approved, your ESTA is typically valid for two years or until your passport expires — whichever comes first. During that time, you can make multiple trips to the United States without needing to re-apply, as long as each visit is 90 days or fewer.

Do Children Need Their Own ESTA?

Yes, every traveler — including infants and children — needs their own ESTA. You can complete the questionnaire on behalf of a child using their passport information. Our guided questionnaire makes this straightforward.

What If I Have a Criminal Record?

The questionnaire includes questions about your background. Please answer them honestly. If you have concerns, we recommend consulting with an immigration professional before applying. Our team can also advise you on next steps if you are unsure.
